APPLICATION OF KITCHEN REFRIGERATION AND HOW TO USE IT

Without refrigeration, the world as we know it, would come to a halt. Refrigeration is an essential part of the world food cycle, medical supplies, mass chemical storage, biological preservation and industrial warehousing.

There are several types of refrigeration solutions that are used industrially and domestically. Two major distinguishing classes of refrigeration are commercial and domestic refrigeration.

Domestic refrigerators or household refrigerators are more intensive and holistic in nature, they’re more compact and are engineered by keeping in mind, the needs of household refrigeration. On the other hand, commercial refrigeration units are usually much bigger and have a wider temperature spectrum owing to their extensive needs. Commercial refrigeration solutions are often made by keeping in mind the nature of the matter being stored in different businesses like catering, hospitals, hotels, pubs, hospitals etc.

Applications Of Kitchen Refrigeration

Commercial kitchen refrigeration is a cornerstone for the success of your pub, club, restaurant. One of the mainapplicationsof kitchen refrigeration is to keep yourfoods and beverages cold, this ensures that your establishment serves fresh food and chilled beverages. Cold temperatures help your food to stay fresh for a longer period. The fundamental idea behindrefrigeration is to slow down the growth of bacteria, so that the food remains fresh and healthy to consume, even after a long duration.

For example, certain bacteria will spoil milk in up to three hours if the milk is left in the open at room temperature. Kitchen refrigerators help by reducing the temperature of the milk;this tremendously slowsdown the decay caused by the bacteria and increasethe milk’s life by up toa week or two. This process can be further prolonged, if you freeze the milk it can be used for up to month and a half.

Here are some common applications of kitchen refrigerators. :

  • Commercial kitchen refrigeration units are primarily used to store, cool and prolong the life of flora-based food items like vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.
  • They are also responsible for the processing, marination and storage of meat and poultry foods.
  • Commercial refrigerators are specially designed for dairy processing and storage. Their wide temperature range ensures that your dairy product is kept at the optimum temperature through all seasons of the year.
  • They have special built in sections that areused for making and storing ice-creams, shakes, smoothies and other healthy desserts.
  • Commercial kitchen refrigerators are used for cooling and storage of alcoholic or fermented beverages.

Application Of Kitchen Refrigeration And How To Use It

How To Best Use A Kitchen Refrigerator

Commercial kitchen refrigerators can be used in several ways. If you’re using a kitchen refrigerator and are not aware of the some of its basic attributes then you can expect bad or uneven cooling, over exerted compressor and high-power usage.

The best way to use a commercial kitchen refrigerator is to optimize it in such a way that you get the maximum cooling with minimum power usage. Don’t worry, doing this is easier than it sounds, just read on!

Clean It Up

Now, we’re not saying that you need to get the cleaning kit out just yet. But it’s a good practice to clean the place where you store your food. Defrost and unplug your refrigerator. Pull your fridge away from the wall, clean the coils and drain the excess water. Open your fridge and sanitize the insides so there is no food or organic remains. This will keep your food from catching any fungus or decay.

Optimize Your Energy Usage

Commercial kitchen refrigerators are critical for grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries and other food and beverage businesses. These appliances are known to use abundant energy for the invaluable service they provide. These tips will help you to optimize your energy consumption in accordance to your needs.

  • Get in and get Out: You must ensure that the refrigerator door is not open for an unnecessary and prolonged period.
  • Don’t burden theBeast: Make sure you’re not over working the compressor by placing heat sources (such as a stove or chimney) around your kitchen refrigerator.
  • Let it Flow: Please ensure that there is ample space between the refrigerator and its surroundingsto allow smooth air flow of the gases.

Check Temperature

Do not set your temperature lower than it’s required. If a refrigerator is set even 5 degrees Celsius beneath the required temperature, it will end up using up to 25 percent more power.Make sure you check the temperature of your fridge and the freezer with a thermometer. Set your temperature dial so that the refrigerator temperature is between 2° to 8°Cdegrees Celsius, and the freezer is near about-18° to -20° C.

Defrost Regularly

Some kitchen refrigerators do not have the automatic defrosting option, it’s a good practice to defrost these refrigerators when the ice is a quarter inch thick. This helps your freezer’s inflow and exhaust to work smoothly and not be coagulated.

Check Your Gaskets

The last thing you need is a leaking commercial kitchen refrigeratordoor. You could be wasting a lot of energy if the gasketson your fridge are compromised. To check this, take a 100 rupee note and insert it between the door gasket and the fridge. If the note slides in and out easily this could mean that your gaskets are not functioning properly. Call the maintenance man and get them replaced.

Inculcate Good Refrigeration Ethics

These tips will give your establishment’s kitchen refrigerator a rest and help you to break the cycle of forgotten, spoiled food items-:

  • Keep refrigerator and freezer stocked. It takes more energy to cool an empty fridge, so if yours is often near-empty, fill jugs or freezer bags with water and keep them in the freezer.
  • Clean condenser coils. Unplug the refrigerator, and either vacuum or brush the coils. Keeping them free of dirt will help the refrigerator operate more efficiently and trim utility bills.
  • Defrost refrigerators and freezers. Frost buildup reduces the energy efficiency, so don't let it get to more than one-quarter of an inch.
  • Check temperature settings. Your refrigerator's temperature should be 4° to 6° C, and the freezer's -18° to -20° C.
  • Test refrigerator door seals to make sure they are airtight. Shut the door over a piece of paper that's half inside and half outside the refrigerator. If the paper pulls out easily, the seal may need replacing. Door leaks let cool air escape, making the refrigerator use more energy to keep food cold.
  • Position and open the refrigerator efficiently. Try to keep it away from heat sources, like the oven, dishwasher and windows. Open doors only when you need to, and keep them open as briefly as possible to prevent the cold air escaping.
  • Keeping the refrigerator at a slightly titled angle from the back side, helps with the automatic closing of the door. Hence, it helps with the automatic closing of the door.
